One function I have always wanted a good freeware for is to resize partitions. Many techies have used the best known commercial software package from Norton, called Partition Magic. And what a handy tool it is for resizing partitions. You would think a great open source product with the same function would have emerged sooner than now, but I was never aware of one.
In the past I had checked a few partition utilities, but one only move an existing partition within a volume and kept it the same size, while another could only resize the old FAT and FAT32 partitions. Not very helpful in these days of NTFS.
So it happened that I found myself in need of such a utility. I lamented having to choose between paying for a commercial product I would only uses rarely (at least at present) or having to start form scratch on the image I was working with. But my new co-worker did some basic research and found this.
Partition Logic.... is that close enough to Partition Magic for a copyright lawsuit?
That another topic for another day.... Bottom line is that Partition Logic did exactly what we needed it to do... quickly, intuitively, and with no side effects.
I am impressed. I have not done a lot of testing (yet) on this product but the initial trials look promising.
Good find from a new co-worker. Thanks, Paul!
